We think more people roasting coffee is exactly what the industry needs. That’s why we developed education programs that make coffee roasting accessible to everyone. With courses tailored to fit anyone’s level of experience- from home roasters looking to up their roast game to roasting professionals looking to hone their craft- CoRo is working to give everyone the tools they need to roast, package, source, and sell coffee.

How do I know which roasting class is right for me?

Want to know which of the education course would best fit your needs then pick which option works best for you below:

  • Little to no experience roasting, home roaster experience, air roaster experience, no prior experience at all:

    • Introduction to Small Batch Roasting

  • Experience on a 1kg drum roaster or larger, basic production roasting knowledge:

    • Introduction to Production Roasting

Introduction to Coffee Cupping
Saturdays*, 10:00am-12:00pm. $65/person

In the coffee industry, we use cupping as a tool to taste, assess, and compare different coffees. Have you ever wondered what it's like to cup coffee? If so, this is the course for you!

Join a Q Grader for a 45 minute lecture on cupping, where you will learn about the protocols of cupping & how to use the cup note descriptors on the Coffee Wheel, followed by a 1-hour session of guided cupping. You’ll walk away with new skills and a greater understanding of complexity and nuances of coffee!

Introduction to Home Brewing - Pour Over Class
Sunday, 9:00am-11:00am. $125/person

Improve your Pour Over game at home by understanding different brew ratios and techniques using a Kalita Wave Dripper, instructed by a seasoned Barista and a Certified Q-Grader.

Students will walk away with skills to build recipe and confidence to brew great tasting Pour Over!

Introduction to Espresso
Sunday, 9:00am-11:00am. $125/person

Dialing-in Espresso can be tricky at first - Learn the history of different generations of Espresso Styles, the proper approach to Dialing-in espresso, then taste different styles of Espresso to learn how to build espresso recipes to your desired preference.

Introduction to Production Roasting
Wednesday, 8:00am-11:30am. $300/person

CoRo’s Introduction to Production Roasting is a group class providing an introduction to coffee roasting on production-grade roasters. Perfect for roasters new to CoRo who are interested in upping their roast game and coffee enthusiasts who want to see how it all happens behind-the-scenes!

Here students receive an overview of roasting machine operations, basic production logistics, safety procedures, and hands-on roasting of a batch of green using our Probat, 5 kg roaster. And on top of all the skills and knowledge, you leave the class with around 6lbs of delicious roasted coffee!

 

Introduction to Small-Batch Roasting
Friday, 9:30-11:30am. $300/person

CoRo’s Introduction to Small-Batch Roasting is a group class providing an introduction to small-batch coffee roasting on our new Mill City, 1kg roaster. This class is perfect for anyone, from home roasters looking to take that “next step” to experienced roasters looking for an introduction to the Mill City’s interesting variable drum and fan speeds.

Here students receive an overview of roasting machine operations, including the Mill City’s drum and fan speed controls, basic production logistics, safety procedures, and hands-on roasting of two batches of green on the Mill City, 1kg roaster. And on top of all the skills and knowledge, you leave the class with around 2.5lbs of delicious roasted coffee!

Advanced Small-Batch Roasting
Flexible scheduling. Two, 2-hour sessions over two days. $600

Advanced Small-Batch Roasting at CoRo is a private class that builds off the skills covered in the Introduction to Small-Batch Roasting class, diving deeper into the world of profiling, roast curves, making more advanced use of Cropster to roast, and cupping the coffees roasted to achieve an ever-better cup of coffee. This class is for those looking to build robust roasting skills, supported by cupping skills, to enhance their overall coffee game.

Here students will roasting numerous batches on day one using our Mill City, 1kg roaster; cup the coffees roasted on day two, and roast again on day two after cupping. Students both log time on the roaster and practice cupping and coffee tasting, all with a Roast Expert leading the way. And as you’d expect, on top of all the skills and knowledge, you’ll leave the class with at least 8lbs of delicious roasted coffee!

The Works at CoRo
16 hours over 4 consecutive weeks, 2 hours/day

The Works is CoRo's comprehensive roasting course. Rooted in CoRo's mission to promote hyper-local coffee and support anyone interested in roasting, The Works is designed to help train the skills and develop the knowledge you need to jumpstart your coffee business. This comprehensive course includes everything that is covered in our Introduction and Advanced classes, with added modules, more time logged behind roasters, and 1-on-1 support from our entire CoRo team.

Week 1: Green buying process, sample roasting and cupping

Week 2: Small-batch and advanced roasting

Week 3: Advanced roasting and production space workflow

Week 4: Espresso, Batch Brew and Pour-Over Basics
